Prevalence and characteristics of COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough infection in Upper Egypt

Abstract Background Infection breakthrough after COVID-19 vaccination is a point of conflict in current literature not only because the estimation potential hazards and symptoms severity but also due to establishing policy measuring extent immunity addition waning humoral over time. To our knowledge, this first study stratify risk post-COVID-19 breakthroughs Upper Egypt. Methods In cross-sectional observational study, we enrolled 369 vaccinated patients registered facility either admitted or out-patient clinic. Patients were interviewed any proven history infection was recorded. Results 18.97% (70 patients) subjects had COVID-19breakthrough infection. Students high-risk group representing 18.6% subjects. Hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease most comorbidities associated with prevalence 15.7%, 8.6%, 4.3% respectively. Prior COVID-19, confirmed present 42.9% group. Fever, headache, myalgia, cough among common post-COVID 90%, 75.7%, 84.3%, 74.3% Conclusion Breakthrough uncommon. Most cases are mild don’t require hospitalization.
